This commentary focuses on Somalia's recent presidential election and peaceful transfer of power. Despite this seeming political success, however, Somalia is hardly free of its crushing problems. Indeed, their repercussions continue to be felt in sub-Saharan and East Africa, and in the Indian Ocean area. As a result, the commentary’s author concludes that the EU (Somalia’s biggest donor) has a particular obligation to continue its involvement in this severely damaged part of the world.
