This research paper asks whether and how the United States’ withdrawal from Afghanistan will affect the latter’s neighborhood and beyond, and how it might specifically affect the Muslim-majority countries of South Asia. Since major large-power pullbacks have historically led to the birth of new economic and political global orders, widespread policy readjustments will need to be made sooner rather than later.
