The US has made significant progress in trying to field a transnational missile defense system in Europe. However, just how it will implement what is known as the European Phased Adaptive Approach (EPAA), both in terms of its timing and scope, remains uncertain. In addition to the decisions made by the next US president, current plans will be influenced by the US Congress and further developments in missile defense technologies.
