This backgrounder addresses the state of the FY 2011 defense budget of the United States of America. Further, it identifies insights stemming from Secretary of Defense Robert Gates’ announcement on the FY 2012 budget and raises budgetary and programmatic issues likely to complicate the Department of Defense’s planning over the Future Year Defense Program (FYDP).
