This conference report discusses US-China relations, regional security issues and approaches to and opportunities for bilateral cooperation in the governance of security-related issues. The dialogue demonstrated that both sides have good understanding and realistic views of where the other stands on major regional security issues. However, significant mistrust exists. The power balance in East Asia is shifting, with China becoming the economic center of the region, while the US remains at the center of regional security relations. It also discusses cross-strait relations, the Korean peninsula, humanitarian and development assistance, WMD diplomacy and non-proliferation and relations to ASEAN.
