This report discusses challenges and opportunities in US-China relations with regard to their respective maritime interests. By identifying the maritime interests of both countries and the respective challenges, the author specifies overlapping interests and areas of conflict. He then gives an array of recommendations to both governments, especially concerning cooperation. The author argues both China and the US urgently need a peaceful, stable, and cooperative environment to rejuvenate their economic and social development. It concludes on an optimistic note regarding China-US maritime cooperation.
