In this theory talk, Christian Reus-Smit investigates "what makes IR IR," and explores the big questions that drive the work of IR scholars. In order to address the remaining challenges of these questions, Reus-Smit argues that there is a need to bridge the divide between normative and empirical scholarship. He also discusses social constructivist methods as well as the necessity to partially rethink IR theory.
