In this theory talk, Marysia Zalewski shows how the mainstream focus of IR tends to push women off the map, arguing that International Relations is perhaps one of the most gender-biased fields in the Social Sciences. She maintains that it is often neglected how the dominance of white middle-aged men as IR practitioners influences how IR is constructed, while further showing how the search for ontological security limits the scope of possible answers and calling for a fundamental change in how IR is taught to students.
