Questions of how international hierarchy comes about and is maintained, and how one can understand the role of the US in determining that structure, are subsequently at the heart of international relations. On both core questions, David A. Lake has made powerful and lasting contributions that both challenge conventional wisdom and engage the most difficult questions. In this interview, David Lake—amongst others—explains how international hierarchy can best be conceptualized, relates this to shifting great power relations and US interventions in Iraq and Afghanistan, and comments on the seductiveness of Open Economy Politics.
