This paper analyses the regional availability and quality of death registration data for estimating the national incidence of homicides and the global distribution of violence. While death registration data is available for most high-income countries, its availability is erratic in other regions. Data is available for many countries from the Caribbean, Latin America, Eastern Europe, and Central Europe. However, little or no death registration data is still available from countries in Africa, South Asia and South-east Asia.
