This paper discusses traditional and non-traditional security issues in Latin America. The author provides information on the historical evolution of security in Latin America over the course of the 19th and 20th centuries and analyzes the effect of past events on the present as well as the future. The paper explains how security issues in Latin America have always largely centered on the level of successful cooperation and hemispheric harmony between the United States and the Southern and the Central American nations.
