This paper provides a perspective on the possible future of transatlantic relations. The author describes how major changes in international relations often arise from changes in the distribution of power and explains how as a result of Soviet and Russian decline, a unipolar distribution of power emerged with different consequences for international politics in general, and transatlantic relations in particular. The paper reviews the distribution of capabilities between the US and EU and analyzes how the bilateral relationship might evolve in the future.
