This book addresses the main challenges and opportunities for Japan and the EU, and for their relations, arising from political and security developments in East Asia, global economic changes, and the situation in the EU. The authors have tried to answer the questions of how the EU-Japan (EU-Asia) relationship should evolve to become more effective, what should be done to make the expectations of the EU and Asia more convergent, and what undertakings are required in order that the EU summits with Asia's main partners might bring tangible results for both sides.
