This brief discusses the outlook for peace in the following decade and the biggest perils to it. The author argues that there are two root issues that will increasingly interrelate: socioeconomic divisions and environmental constraints, especially climate change. He then discusses the consequences of these divisions and constraints and possible ways to tackle them. In conclusion, the author provides a short outlook on the next century and identifies the second decade of the 21st century as a key decade given these two root issues.
