The paper discusses the reduction in size and reorganisation of the British armed forces. It notes that so far two tranches of redundancies have been announced with over 6,600 personnel across all three services notified of their selection for redundancy. Those serving in, preparing to go to, or on leaving having returned from Afghanistan on the notification dates are exempt from selection, unless they apply for voluntary redundancy. The Ministry of Defence has said the proximity of a retirement point is not a consideration when selecting individuals for redundancy.
