This paper discusses the role of the 2003 US-led war against Iraq and the decline of transatlantic relations. The author aims to discover the reasons, including those concerning Iraq, behind the collapse of US-European relations and the crisis of the fabric of international law and international institutions. He concludes that most of these developments were unavoidable due to the disappearance of a common Communist threat after the downfall of the Soviet Union.
