This report provides a summary of a workshop on Track II dialogue on weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and regional security held in Istanbul in the fall of 2012. Discussion includes American and Turkish perspectives on security cooperation, with a particular focus on US-Turkish relations in the context of the nuclear non-proliferation treaty (NPT). In addition, issues of extended deterrence and the role of Iran are addressed. In summary, a number of participants advocate the use of strategic dialogues as a means of cooperating on issues beset by mistrust.
