Global Trends 2030 is the fifth installment in the National Intelligence Council's series aimed at providing a framework for thinking about the future. It seeks to identify critical trends and potential discontinuities. It identifies the following four mega-trends: individual empowerment, diffusion of power and the emergence of a multi-polar world, the narrowing of the demographic arc of instability, and the growing demand for and inter-linkage of food, water and energy. This volume also contains a chapter on the potential trajectories for the US role in the international system.
