The US initiated Proliferation Security Initiative (PSI) seeks to interdict WMD shipments to and from states and non-state actors of proliferation sources in the Pacific. It took nearly a decade to convince half of the ASEAN member states to join the initiative. The commentary suggests that the PSI has nevertheless been able to gain traction in the international community due to a number of successful interdictions. Implementation is however slow. The commentary suggests that states other than the US need to do more to promote the benefits of the PSI.
