This policy brief discusses Israel's and Jordan's policy of containment and damage limitation towards Syria's civil war. The two countries have expressed hopes for the demise of the Assad regime, but unlike Syria's other neighbors – Turkey, Lebanon and Iraq – they have stopped short of allowing the rebels to open supply conduits through their territories. However, Israel's and Jordan's hands-off posture could be changing, the author argues. Israel has reportedly bombed a consignment of Syrian arms apparently bound for Lebanon, while Jordan is increasingly bowing to Saudi pressure to open its borders to rebel supplies.
