This paper looks at the role of civil society in the Arab Spring uprisings. It looks at the nature and relevance of civil society in the Arab World and groups countries according to type of civil associations present. The paper then explores the link between civil society and democracy and offers a set of policy recommendations on how to strengthen civil society organizations in Arab counties.
