The launch of the European Union Training Mission Mali (EUTM Mali) aims at preparing Malian armed forces to autonomously safeguard the country’s territorial integrity. The authors of this bulletin argue that, given the multifaceted security, economic and humanitarian challenges in Mali, the success of the operation cannot be taken for granted. They advise the EU member states to consider increasing the official development assistance for Mali. The participation in EUTM operation and lessons learned from its preparations could be used by Poland to strengthen its agenda for reform of the Common Security and Defence Policy.
