A memorandum signed 7 March 2013 with Slovenia ultimately frees Croatia to accede to the European Union, which is scheduled for July 2013. It will likely be the last round of enlargement to the Western Balkans this decade. Therefore, in the coming years, the effects of this process will be less visible in the region. Meanwhile, or so this paper argues, it is in the interest of Poland that the EU enlargement policy is more effective, also in the context of a recent Czech-German-Polish-Swedish proposal to strengthen the Union’s cooperation with the Eastern Partnership countries.
