This policy brief argues that the ongoing changes in the Middle East and North Africa are not just about domestic level political reform but also regional security dynamics. According to the author, no strategic framework has yet been able give a complete account of what is unfolding in the region. Both the United States and the European Union frequently repeat that they are committed to shaping their policies around local, Arab expectations and views. In the current MENA scenario, the author argues, the US and the EU must equip themselves to deal with far more diverse geopolitics.
