This paper examines the institutionalization of the youth movement that led to Egypt's 25 January 2011 revolution. It argues that the political empowerment and inclusion of the youth in the democratic process is important for the success of the transitional process. However, in order to present a viable political force, the new youth-dominated parties need to find a balance between street politics and conventional politics. Furthermore, they also have to overcome internal differences, structural weaknesses and a lack of organizational capacities.
