This paper examines the challenges François Hollande faces after being elected president and after his party secured a majority of seats in the French parliament. The author focuses on the difficulties presented by the eurozone crisis and policies of austerity. He also discusses the problem France has in reigning in state spending due to a lack of debate on the issue.
