In this paper, the author talks about Algeria’s fifty years of independence. He discusses the country’s relationship with revolutionaries after independence and the period before and after the fall of the price of crude oil in the 1980s. He also discusses the prospects for the country and suggests much will depend on the way in which President Abdelaziz Bouteflika chooses to leave his position in 2014.
