In this brief, the authors argue that the conflict situation in the Caucasus is changing. They suggest the confrontation between Russia and Georgia is calming down, but others, particularly in the north of the region, are escalating. However, as the international community is focused on other matters, the Caucasus are not receiving the attention they deserve. Turkey is also reluctant to take on new responsibilities in the area, but the authors think in the absence of external players, a small contribution from them could have a significant impact.
