This monograph analyses alternative US national security strategies to either hegemony or isolation in the face of increasing budget deficits and national debt. These strategies assume a more multipolar world and suggest the US should collaborate and share security burdens with other powers while also ensuring it has the power to deal with aggressors. This work looks into how such collaborations are maintained and how other states might act in a period of transition.
