This monograph provides a historical analysis of the conflict in Western Sahara, stressing areas of relevance to the US. It focuses on the evolving human and physical geography in the region, the role of the US, Algeria, and other powers in the conflict, as well as military tactics, operations, and strategies. The author analyzes the current situation in the region and gives recommendations for US policy and military planning. He concludes that there is no easy solution to the conflict, but a properly historically informed policy by the US could help.
