This study examines the challenges of displacement in a context of rapid urbanization in Peshawar, Pakistan. The city has become one of the largest recipient cities for refugees and internally displaced people in South Asia, however the authors argue that it has inadequate resources to effectively deal with the situation. They suggest that many of the poor residents, displaced or not, face serious problems in terms of access to sustainable livelihoods, basic services such as shelter and sanitation, and physical security. To try and improve the situation, they offer a number of recommendations for the national authorities, international donors and aid agencies involved.
