This paper examines what local ownership means within the context of peace processes, and specific role it has in sustainable peacebuilding in Sierra Leone. Local ownership is an essential component of post-conflict reconstruction but years of internal violence have weakened local capacity in Sierra Leone. The author draws on lessons from other intra-state conflicts to highlight best practices and provide recommendations to domestic and international actors.
