This report looks at the situation in Haiti and reviews some of the main concerns of the US and Congress. It suggests that development was set back in the country by the earthquake in January 2010 and that Haiti remains the poorest country in the western hemisphere. The report gives an outline of developments in institutional rebuilding, reconstruction efforts, the democratic process as well as the UN Stabilization Mission in Haiti. It suggests the main priorities for the US in Haiti are to strengthen the democratic process and to improve security and economic development.
