This report examines the security situation in Afghanistan as US-led forces transfer power to state actors. The report notes the improvement of the urban security situation. The Afghan security forces are strengthening their capabilities and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) is transferring over to the Security Force Assistance Model. Nonetheless, the country's governance and development remain weak, posing significant problems for the country's long-term stability.
