This policy brief examines claims regarding the peace in India’s northeastern state of Meghalaya. The authors argue that the triggers and dynamics of the state’s on-going conflict continue to smolder beneath the veneer of so-called peace. The brief also critically evaluates on-going governmental and nongovernmental initiatives for defusing and resolving the conflict. In conclusion, the authors put forward some recommendations for how to bring about sustainable peace in the region.
