This paper offers an overview of the measures used in Northern Ireland to release and reintegrate ex-prisoners, and to open up opportunities for peaceful activities by former non-state combatants. The author explains that the study of any set of conversion measures must also involve an appreciation of the nature of the respective peace process. Thus, the papaer examines how the conversion measures relate to the dynamic of the peace process in Northern Ireland.
