This report outlines the proceedings of conference which brought together policymakers, high-level researchers, and experts from Arab countries, the EU, international financial institutions, central banks and think-tanks to assess the economic causes and consequences of the uprisings in the Middle East and North Africa. There was consensus among participants that sound economic policies and sufficient external political and financial support are needed to mitigate the risk of serious destabilization in some countries as well as development gaps between regions.
