This report measures peace in 162 countries according to 22 qualitative and quantitative indicators concerning the absence of violence and fear of violence. The findings show that Iceland, Denmark and New Zealand respectively were the most peaceful countries in 2013. Afghanistan, Somalia and Libya were the least peaceful. The report also considers the global cost of containing violence and presents the Positive Peace Index, which measures the capacity of nations to create and sustain a peaceful environment.
