This paper explores how Brazil fared during the global financial crisis. The author focuses on the different policy tools used in Brazil's response and their relative effectiveness. The paper concludes by exploring how attempts to deal with the challenges of the global financial crisis could be assisted by a concerted effort to reform the global monetary system.
