This paper argues that it is time for the G20 leaders to re-emphasize the crucial role played by the WTO and the international trade it supports. The author argues that trade has slid down the agenda at the Doha Round of trade negotiations and that the multilateral trading system appears to be losing relevance to mega-regional agreements. However, he claims that given the importance of trade to the health of the global economy, there is need for an effective and legitimate policy framework through a multilateral system.
