In the aftermath of the French intervention, this report discusses the background behind the Malian crisis and assesses the international response. The author discusses some possible scenarios for the near future as well as potential long-term challenges and argues that the Malian military capability needs to be built up. He concludes by talking about the likelihood of the intervention becoming another Afghanistan and highlights the importance of a French exit strategy.
