The first commentary in this edition argues that the Chinese concept of a "new pattern of great power relations" could have profound strategic significance – if it gains some content. In light of the Obama-Xi meeting in Sunnylands, the second commentary argues that Europe should start to face reality and be fully aware that squabbling and short sightedness are exposing it to the risk of fading into economic and political irrelevance.
