This paper addresses strategic tensions within in US-China relations. Specifically, the authors address incidents where US and Chinese military forces have interacted within China’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). They also consider the reasons behind the continued occurrence of these incidents and discuss whether new or different procedures or policies could help to avoid future disputes.
