This publication talks about the prospects for a negotiated solution to the conflict in Afghanistan in relation to the opening of the Taliban office in Qatar. It suggests that this development should be given credit as another attempt to revitalize the efforts to find a negotiated solution, but that it should also be taken with caution. The authors argue that in the light of the disagreements over the form of the dialogue process, it is difficult to how the dialogue will move forward. However, they also claim that a sustainable settlement of the Afghan conflict will only be achieved through a negotiated process.
