This paper examines the challenges facing the elections in Mali scheduled for July/August 2013. The author argues that, although Mali is politically unstable and shows increased Islamic terrorist activity, Malian territorial integrity has almost completely been restored — a prerequisite for holding the elections. The Malian authorities are determined that the elections should happen as scheduled. The author proposes that the EU should intensify its assistance to Mali, with Poland possibly playing a role in this process.
