This paper looks at NATO's future development and use of multinational air force and parachute-capable airborne units in conflict and intervention operations. Highlighting their capability of quick response and short-duration operations, the paper argues for use of high-readiness airborne units as an integral part of Smart Defense and the Connected Forces Initiative to improve crisis response, advance Alliance transformation and to enhance operational preparedness and cooperation.
