This issue of BPSR provides insights into issues of development, democratization and politics in South America, with a special focus on Brazil and global trade. The articles featured in this volume look at concepts of economic and political democracy; whether the size of coalitions matters in GATT/WTO negotiations; the factors that determine the diffusion of social policies; and alternative ways of explaining the legislative success of governments in Latin America. The issue also includes two book reviews.
