This brief examines the evolving relationship between Mozambique and Malawi. Despite extensive socio-economic ties linking the two countries, their relationship has, historically, been a difficult one. Since President Joyce Banda assumed power in Malawi in April 2012, however, the two countries have begun a period of warmer relations marked by deeper bilateral cooperation. This paper goes on to make specific recommendations on how to further strengthen the relationship between the two countries.
