This brief assesses the challenges and likely outcomes for political parties in Tunisia after the completion of the country’s new constitution. The author argues that once approved, the new constitution will initiate a form of legal stability; but that party politics and new institutional arrangements could also converge to complicate decision-making and obscure consensus. He concludes that the constitution and the distribution of executive powers it grants will present strategic challenges for political parties.
