This paper looks at the challenges Syria’s conflict presents to the stability of the state system in the Levant. It reviews the ways in which shifts in regional politics over the past two decades are now having an effect on patterns of regional intervention in the Syrian conflict. It then explores options for addressing this 'regionalization' and mitigating its negative effects.
